In Dnipro: An Entangled History of a European City, Dr. Andrii Portnov offers the first English-language synthesis of the history of Dnipro. He locates the city in broader regional, national, and transnational contexts and explores the interaction between global processes and everyday aspects of urban life. As a critical and entangled history of a multicultural space, the book looks for a new language to overcome the traps of both national and imperial history-writing.
Dr. Andrii Portnov is Professor of the Entangled History of Ukraine at the Europa-Universität Viadrina (Frankfurt/Oder) and director of Prisma Ukraïna: Research Network Eastern Europe at the Forum Transregionale Studien in Berlin. He graduated from Dnipro and Warsaw Universities, defended his PhD in Lviv, and has lectured in Berlin, Basel, Brussels, Cambridge, Geneva, Paris, and Vienna.
The event will be held in Ukrainian.
